The Right Hand of Fellowship

Joining the Church

Membership in the African Methodist Episcopal Church is more than signing a roll — it is belonging to a Connection 200 years strong.

By Baptism & Profession of Faith

For those who have come to faith in Christ and have not yet been baptized. Baptism is administered at the close of worship, and you are received into membership the same Sunday.

By Christian Experience

For those already baptized and walking with Christ who wish to make Pearson Memorial their church home. You will be received with the right hand of fellowship.

By Transfer of Letter

For members coming from another AME or sister congregation. We request your letter of transfer and welcome you into the Pearson family.

How It Happens

  1. 1Come forward at the invitation. At the close of each Sunday Worship the pastor extends the invitation to discipleship. No appointment, no paperwork at the door — just come.
  2. 2Meet briefly with the pastor. A few questions, a prayer, and the right hand of fellowship from the congregation.
  3. 3Complete the New Members Class — four sessions on the AME Discipline, the Apostles' Creed, the sacraments, and the ministries of Pearson Memorial.
  4. 4Receive your AME Hymnal and class assignment. Every member belongs to a class — the historic Methodist way of caring for souls.
